@RepPaulRyan has a Problem

Just tweeted @RepPaulRyan to ask him if he had a Mittens Etch-a-Sketch too!

“I reject her philosophy. It’s an atheist philosophy. It reduces human interactions down to mere contracts and it is antithetical to my worldview. If somebody is going to try to paste a person’s view on epistemology to me, then give me Thomas Aquinas. Don’t give me Ayn Rand.”

Sadly, he’s got a track record … and here it is!

The author [of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution article] — Jay Bookman — goes on to point out the many, many places where pre-repudiation Paul says things like this.

“I give out Atlas Shrugged as Christmas presents, and I make all my interns read it. Well… I try to make my interns read it.”

But wait, there’s more!

“Ayn Rand, more than anybody else, did a fantastic job explaining the morality of capitalism, the morality of individualism, and that, to me, is what matters most.

And the finial nail in the coffin? Video:

Thanks to d r i f t g l a s s for finding this so I could totally rip off his post (@MrElectrico on twitter) – and feel free to tweet @RepPaulRyan and ask him about his Etch-a-Sketch!

Pretty crappy alt-text, if you ask me (and I know, no one’s asking). Was this done in a rush to get outside and enjoy the fine spring day?

@ManchuCandidate: sign up – @ManchuCandidate is probably available.

@karen marie still has her eyes tight shut: No, this was done from my couch, where I never bother to change an alt-text … give me a few minutes.

God, I hope Romney chooses Paul Ryan as his running mate. It will be awesome to watch the Evangelical GOP party faithful lining up to vote for a ticket featuring a Mormon and an atheist.

@Serolf Divad: Do you think that would work for them? Between Romney losing the christofacists and Ryan losing the moderates it seems like a no-win…

You know, if you’re gonna go all fanboy on a writer why not pick one who can write? Who has a political agenda that is by no means liberal but isn’t braindead Tory.

Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy. The Homer of Russia. Of Europe. War and Peace remains the great thrill ride of literature in which the author invents the movies. The recent translation is fabulous. I write that as someone who has read the book four times. Anna Karenina invents the subconscious and, in the character of Levin mowing a field of wheat alongside his serfs, demonstrates the idea of social justice and how sweat soaked cotton undershirts clinging to muscled torsos can offer hope for the future. Much as our president predicted it would be raining men.

Eyes on the prize, people.
