Santorum Surge Ends

Rick Santorum is suspending his campaign.

We tuned in late, but Frothy is surrounded by three gals and a dude. We’re not sure whether one of the gals is Crying Daughter.

Frothy is speaking from Gettysburg, but he’s using more than 270 words.

The More You Know: The sweater vests were Made in America.

Frothy thanks God for the “miracle” of his campaign. (We were going to say “miracle of his race”, but that didn’t sound right…)

“We were able to spread that message far and wide.” Oh, yeah.

Appomattox would have been more appropriate.

frothy thanked a guy name chuck who allegedly drove the frothy klan around in a dodge ram pick up truck. i’ll guarantee you the frothy klan would never set foot in a pick up truck. he also mentioned that he worked a terminally ill lady to death by forcing her to make 5000 phone calls as a volunteer. and of course he lamented that there ain’t no freedom no more.

@ManchuCandidate: gettysburg could be considered bobby lee’s and now herr santorum’s stalingrad.

p.s. there is a city named alamo in crockett county, tennessee.

Well, everybody was saying Frothy has to get out now and spare himself a second home-state embarrassment.

And so he did.

Now that the Santorum has been wiped off, the question is this: Does the media keep pretending that Ron Paul doesn’t exist in order to streamline their horse-race campaign framing from here on?

@jwmcsame: Alamo = “cottonwood tree” en espanol. Damn Mexicans are running around giving things foreign names!

@redmanlaw: What? You mean I grew up with an Alamo in my front yard? Cool!

@redmanlaw: Alamo is also shorthand for “that fucking tree leaves sticky dandruff over everything”.

Preznident about to give major speech on Buffett Rule. Which is now being bumped inside to Page A6.

@nojo: “Alamogordo” the name of a city in New Mexico = “fat cottonwood tree.”

Andrew Sullivan likes to joke that big news always breaks when he’s away from the blog. Naturally, he’s on vacation this week.

@redmanlaw: Used in a sentence: “Jesus Christ, that fucking windstorm is going to blow the Alamo into our living room!”

Also: “Remember the Alamo, because we’re chopping it down to keep it from killing us next time.”

@ManchuCandidate: True. But his opting not to be a thorn in Romney’s side for another four plus months is.

Was Lil’ Santorum with The Serial Killah Eyes there? That kid should be under constant surveillance.

Zimmerman news conference 4;30 ET today (running late), per rawstory. I guess he’s not getting charged since his mouthpiece said he would not talk if he was. We’ll see.

Also, Keith Olbermann went on Dan Patrick today to talk about Marlins manager Ozzy Guillen’s pro-Castro comments. The Cubanos want his head.

Z-man a no-show.

HIS LAWYERS ARE QUITTING! They lost contact with him.

@mellbell: You think he’ll get a speaking slot at the Convention?

The lawyers spoke with the special prosecutor. Z-man contacted the prosecutor directly – a HUGE client control failure.

The pressure pushed him over the edge?

@redmanlaw: Holy crap. Out of control.

Breaking: Josh Marshall is reporting that Zimmerman talked to Sean Hannity.

“He’s been in hiding. I’m not sure how much therapy he’s been able to get for that.”

Z can’t leave where he’s at (“the house”) and isolated with a bounty on his head “whether that’s beliveable or not.” They don’t know if he is alone. Probably won’t flee the county.

“George Zimmerman owes me no money.”

@redmanlaw: Jesus Christ, can’t I concentrate on geeking without checking Twitter every five minutes for breaking news?

@Dodgerblue:

Santorum – Yes
Gingrich – Probably
Zimmerman – Probably not, but you never know.

@nojo: Me too, plus the Dodger game on the radio.

Well, that makes two stories burying Obama’s speech today. Three, if you count Fidel.

More free spin from lawyers still pushing the self-defense line:

Z man has black friends and is of a racially diverse background.

Shooting was not racially motivated.

Rehash of facts/Z’s story.

@redmanlaw: Keep rolling with it. I’m not going to bother with a fresh post unless a clever angle comes to mind. Too late to the party.

The lawyers are getting a little unprofessional and angry in mocking and denigrating the Martin family’s supporters.

The “gangsta” shot of Martin is referenced.

@redmanlaw: I might have to find a video later — sounds like fun.

Finally tuned into CNN just as they were closing the story: Reporter saying the lawyers hoped Zimmerman would hear their pleas to contact them.

Next: Milk cartons.

“The crime was battery against George Zimmerman.”

Someone needs to ask if it’s possible that Martin was standing his ground.

“You can’t be the first physical aggressor,” which they say was Martin, and claim self-defense.

The evidence will eventually come out either in trial or after the prosecutor declines to charge.

Zimmerman is free to call.

. . . and that’s a wrap.

They said early on that they set up a legal defense fund website to be controlled by Zimmerman’s dad, but they heard over the weekend about the realgeorgezimmerman site that Z set up on his own.

It doesn’t sound like they had a formal retainer agreement with Zimmerman.

The more senior lawyer defended the stand your ground law and said he, too, has a carry permit. Sounded pretty right wing on guns for a defense lawyer.

@Dodgerblue: The lawyers talked about the Hannity thing. Hannity won’t tell them what their former client said.

@redmanlaw: Excellent work.

I’m going to try geeking some more. Somebody holler if Ron Paul announces a real revolution.

Can a white Bronco chase be far behind? (For Santorum, Gingrinch, and/or Zimmerman?)

Maybe they’re gonna find the real killers.

@¡Andrew!: What with the bankruptcy and Callista’s jewelry tastes, Newtie won’t be able to afford one until gas is below $2.50 a gallon.

From Borowitz: George Zimmerman’s legal team says they never met face-to-face with him, saying they were “afraid of getting shot.”
