Don Cornelius, 1936-2012

Don Cornelius, the creator and host of the iconic variety show “Soul Train” died this morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Some of the show’s greatest hits in the ’70s and ’80s:

The only chink I ever saw in Don Cornelius’ armor was when he had contemporary gospel artists on his show. Apparently he was a fan of traditional music, because he never failed to make some snide remark about his preferences in front of said artists.

I bring this up as the sole indication that he was troubled enough to take his own life.
