A Very, Very Special Christmas Song

As long as we’re sharing, here’s my all time favorite Christmas classic, Christmas At Calvary:

Actual I sh*t you not lyrics:

I love to spend Christmas at Calvary.
The most beautiful gift was given.
When God himself, and mercy decorated a tree.
The most beautiful light there is shining.
I love to spend christmas at calvary.

Merry Christmas Stinquers!

Well, that was painful to watch and hear. The first woman in the clip (presumably either Billy or Willie) could have been the inspiration for Dana Carvey’s Church Lady.

We have far too many neighbors who add lighted crosses to their outdoor Christmas decorations. Maybe they like foreshadowing. I am constantly amazed at how many Christians pay no attention to everything the bible says Jesus said and did, instead treating an execution as the centerpiece of their religion.

I think the lyric is ‘… God Himself in mercy decorated a tree.’ Doesn’t make too much more sense but is kinda foreshadowing the Passion. Though what a symbol of the Nordic Yule has got to do with Calvary beats me. Are we singing in diminished fourths, ladies?

Have we gone s*ft?

@Dave H: The two tallest office buildings in downtown OKC–Chase Bank and Kerr-McGee Oil Co–have crosses formed by office lights left on for the entire month of December. I always thought it bizarre. If you’re gonna do that, do it at Easter.

@nojo:

Respect for the Christ Child. Tomorrow I stop bleeping my cusswords.

@Serolf Divad: Speaking of respect for the Christ Child, what’s the status of Our Christian Nation’s homeless laws? Was Jesus a Roman Anchor Baby?

@nojo: Surf over to YouTube for Woody Guthrie singing “Jesus Christ.”

@nojo: It’s pretty clear from Paul’s Epistle to the Thessalonians that Jesus favored highly skilled immigrants from Western European nations to poor Mexicans. Also Taxes are too high.

Anyway, here’s an Anti Commie-Jesus attack ad I did for YouTube some time back:

I think it is “When God himself AND mercy decorated s tree”, given that Fundies occasionally refer to the “Easter Tree” when talking about the Cross.

It’s a garish reference, but there it is.

Hope your Christmas/Kwanza/Chaunikah/Solstice/Winter celebration/ Nilist Death Watch thingie was fun, and that you spent it Esther someone you love, Stinquers. Here’s to 2011: May we come to our senses and enact a democratic socialist state in the New Year!

@Tommmcatt is with Karin Marie on This One: Where you been? We’ve been pinning all our Festivus grievances on you.

@Dave H:

instead treating an execution as the centerpiece of their religion.

As Barbare Ehrenreich pointed out in “Nickel and Dimed”, there are an awful lot of Christians who prefer Dead Jeebus over Live Jeebus, as the latter had a nasty habit of saying things that they don’t particularly agree with.

And speaking of people who talk out of both sides of their mouth, Tom Coburn insists all Americans must make sacrifices, except for rich fucks he and his teabag buddies just got a totally unnecessary tax cut for

@JNOV: I’ve been hanging out with my family and my meat friends, which means that, alas, I must neglect my friends who are ghosts in the machine. I hope you all understand…after all, you pretty much have me exclusively for the rest of the year.

@al2o3cr: In the meadow I say fuck Tom Cobern!

Or he can do it himself ’till he dies!

That sounds lotsa fun for Mr. Coburn!

We’ll leave him out for springtime and the flies!

@Dave H: @Mistress Cynica: My mom has a Christmas ornament that says “Christ was born for this” on a big, iron nail. That’s some fucked up shit right there.
