Charles Krauthammer Waves the Bloody Asshole

Sacrilege at Ground Zero: A place is made sacred by a widespread belief that it was visited by the miraculous or the transcendent (Lourdes, the Temple Mount), by the presence there once of great nobility and sacrifice (Gettysburg), or by the blood of martyrs and the indescribable suffering of the innocent (Auschwitz).” [WaPo]

Apparently it’s OK, however, to build a GIANT FUCKING OFFICE BUILDING directly on top of the “sacred ground”. Riiiiiight.

@al2o3cr: And in OKC. Cyn could get a Domestic Terrorism Purple Heart for that one, I believe.

@al2o3cr: You haven’t heard of the Auschwitz Professional Suites?

@redmanlaw: Actually, the new federal building is two blocks away from the OKC bombing site. There’s a beautiful memorial on the actual site (and one that didn’t take years to build, either) and the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (a research library, archive, and museum) occupies the old office building that was across the street from the Murrah building. One of the few things OKC really did right in all my years there.
I don’t get a medal, I’m afraid. Although a window did blow in on me, I wasn’t cut or injured. Permanently afraid of loud noises, however.

Barry’s gonna chat about the not-mosque in a minute or two — a personal Friday News Dump!

@nojo: Ah. Embargoed comments he’s giving at a Ramadan dinner. Anyway, he’s all for it. Palin tweet coming.

Here in Manhattan, most of us could care less. Krauthammer is at war against everything – he is a vile bag of bile and pus, and he should keep his opinions inside the Beltway.

@nojo: Right on cue…

SarahPalinUSA Will Obama express US lingering pain& ask Muslims for tolerance by discouraging 9/11 mosque while he celebrates Islamic holy month tonight?

I need to figure out why this one annoys me so much.

The more erudite amongst you have probably already read this, but I ran across it today and figured I’d pass it along:

@Mistress Cynica: I guess there wan’t the same amount of money involved in OKC. Also, no foreigners: so let’s all get it behind us as fast as we can. I had no idea you were there.

@al2o3cr: Along with fascism’s attitudes towards tradition I’d say that here in the US they come coupled with a lack of interest in the past, only in the tribal myths of the past. Unless that’s what he means by tradition.
