She bailed out 100 yards in, jumped into an SUV, and headed for Yankee Stadium to meet Rudy.

There’s a scene beloved among fans of the original Star Trek — no, not the Green Babe — where a classic Greek paradox is enacted for our viewing pleasure.

The setup is that Kirk and his nemesis Harry Mudd are being held captive by a group of androids. Kirk tells the Head Android that Mudd is a congenital liar. Whereupon Mudd tells the Android, “I am lying.”

This, as they say, does not compute. The Android tries to work out the logic — if Mudd is a liar, then his statement is a lie, but if his statement is a lie, then he’s telling the truth, only he’s a liar — and by the third or fourth round, smoke starts issuing from his ears. And then his head tilts.

Which is a fair description of what happened to us when we learned that Rush Limbaugh and his merry band of wingnuts are calling for a boycott of GM because we own it now.

Bad news, everybody — it looks like, apart from the midwestern breakthrough, gay marriage is staying behind the Chowdah Curtain.  See, New York’s Senate just ‘sploded this afternoon.

In a dramatic late afternoon overthrow of the Senate leadership, Senate Republicans joined by two dissident Democrats took control of the upper chamber and installed Sen. Pedro Espada as president… Espada, D-Bronx, who returned to Albany in January after a hiatus, said he is a voice for reform Democrats and that more reformers will be joining his lead. He and Sen. Hiram Monserrate of Queens joined the 30 Senate Republicans to remove all leadership put into place at the start of year when Sen. Malcolm Smith became the majority leader.

Ah, “hiatus.”  Turns out that the two turncoats are as crooked as the day is long.  But whereas this might be a drawback in non-Illinois Democratic circles, this is a definite plus in the GOP of today.  Sheesh.

Sarah Palin brings the stupid again:

“We just went right after them,” said Ms. Jacobson, who is white and said she was once the bank’s top-producing subprime loan officer nationally. “Wells Fargo mortgage had an emerging-markets unit that specifically targeted black churches, because it figured church leaders had a lot of influence and could convince congregants to take out subprime loans.”
