SFL wrote this post for me (for which I thank her), because I am busy being slowly driven mad by my contemporaries.  But enough of that.

Is it the rarefied air of entitlement that leads to the children of politicians to be even more of a douchebag than their office-holding parent?

Who wants to go down the creepy tunnel inside the tomb first?Let’s start out by granting that Nicolas Cage Barack Obama gave a commanding speech at the National Archives yesterday, expressing in welcome detail the national-security challenges he faces and the means he intends to address them.

And then let’s dwell on what he didn’t say.

Briefly: Barry, unlike Harry Reid, is not frightened by Carmina Burana. Rather than succumbing to fear-mongering on Guantanamo, he disposes of those political tactics decisively.

Which makes it even more disappointing that he implicitly endorses another nefarious Republican line: couching his disagreement with the Bush torture regime as a policy difference.

The more we think about this line from Obama’s speech Thursday, the creepier we feel:

In the midst of all these challenges, however, my single most important responsibility as President is to keep the American people safe. That is the first thing that I think about when I wake up in the morning. It is the last thing that I think about when I go to sleep at night.

Shithead.

My dream is coming true:

Today, I am excited to announce that I am taking the next step in exploring a possible run for United States Senate. Two weeks ago, I embarked on a listening tour where I had the pleasure of hearing the thoughts and concerns of my fellow Louisianans. These conversations were highly encouraging and convinced me to officially explore the possibility of running for the United States Senate. To this end, I have formed an exploratory committee to gauge Louisianans’ support for my potential candidacy.

cheney1Did’ya hear? Dick Cheney gave a speech today. And all the big networks covered it and broadcast it live because… hey… when the guy who ran the country so expertly for eight years gives a speech, the American people want to hear what he has to say… if only for the sake of nostalgia.

The speech itself was long and boring and all about what an awful person that Barack Obama fellow is because he doesn’t want to waterboard prisoners any more to figure out once and for all where Saddam hid those darned, elusive WMDs.

And while the speech is too long and boring to reprint in its entirety (or even to quote from at length) it does have one redeeming virtue, and that’s that you can summarize Cheney’s entire argument (indeed, his philosophy of government) by quoting just one sentence from it. Read more »

Commenter JNOV made a video about gay civil rights.  Parts of it are pretty graphic, and she makes her point in a powerful way.  A comment from YouTube is reprinted after the jump.
