Have you driven a Ford lately?You’ll forgive our financial ignorance, but after we blew our inheritance on Tulip Futures, we’ve limited our investing to losing quarters in the couch, knowing they’ll remain safe until we need them.

But with headlines screaming DOW 40,000 7,000, we’re starting to wonder what the fuss is about. Haven’t we been hearing for years about inflated stock (and housing) prices? And if they’re inflated, doesn’t that suggest that someone needs to take some air out of the tires?

Unless, of course, you’ve been leveraging everything on a bet that stocks will be even more inflated. In which case that Red Button is looking more like a whoopie cushion.

Well, the married gays have gone and done it now. Seeking federal recognition and rights in a lawsuit filed in Boston.

Let’s see: the inevitable First Circuit appeal would be heard in Decemberish, maybe. That presumes a real rocket docket, but even so there’s little chance of this getting heard by the Supremes so that a decision could be rendered by June 2010.

Anyway: discuss.

US Republicans Dilemma

Michael Steele dropped to his knees before Rush Limbaugh, what?  Twenty-four hours after criticizing him?  And now Bobby “The Exorcist” Jindal wants sloppy seconds:

Jindal also responded to Michael Steele’s recent flap about Limbaugh: “I’m glad he apologized. I think the chairman is a breath of fresh air for the party. As I said before, I think Rush is a leader for many conservatives and says things that people are concerned about.”

“Says things that people are concerned about”? What the fuck does that mean?

Steele to Rush: I’m sorry [Politico]

greenberg_hank_apWe just gave AIG $30 billion.  AIG is also suing us over a tax matter, so we’re paying to sue ourselves.  And now we’re going to pay for AIG to defend itself from … its former CEO:

This is sad and kind of awesome. Maurice “Hank” Greenberg, the man who built up AIG into the global powerhouse, before being forced out by Eliot Spitzer, is suing his old company for securities fraud. Greenberg says that mirepresentations by the company caused him to overpay for the stock.

It’s as though he killed his own parents and is now complaining because he’s a fucking orphan.
