Shit Week Continues

Fertilizer plant burning near Waco. First responders on the scene. And then

“It was a small fire and then water got sprayed on the ammonia nitrate, and it exploded just like the Oklahoma City bomb,” said Jason Shelton, a clerk at the Czech Best Western Hotel in West. “I live about a thousand feet from it and it blew my screen door off and my back windows. There’s houses leveled that were right next to it. We’ve got people injured and possibly dead.”

Early casualty reports are sketchy — we all know that drill — but a local EMS commander feared there could be dozens dead.

So, about that ammonia:

West Fertilizer Co. reported having as much as 54,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia on hand in an emergency planning report required of facilities that use toxic or hazardous chemicals.

But the report, reviewed Wednesday night by The Dallas Morning News, stated “no” under fire or explosive risks. The worst possible scenario, the report said, would be a 10-minute release of ammonia gas that would kill or injure no one.

And that’s when the needle moves from tragedy to criminal.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit snorting tramadol.

@¡Andrew!: I threw out my kratom.

TJ/Vincent and Theo is a major waste of time crap ass shitty movie.

What is Chloë saying? “Dad? I can’t hear. Dad? I can’t hear. Please get out of here please get out of here. Dad? I can’t hear. I can’t hear anything I can’t hear anything.”

I drive past West anytime I’m doing the SA-DFW circuit on I-35. There’s a place on the highway called the Czech Stop that advertises kolaches and such. Of course, I’d also ruminate while driving through about the irony of West, Texas not being in West Texas.

Also, this updated memo: If you have a fertilizer plant in your town, and it’s on fire, RUN. LIKE. HELL.

@matador1015: Also, probably best not to live within spitting distance of it. Even better would be zoning and safety laws that prevent a goddam retirement home from being built inside the Kill Zone. Preventable Tragedies Suck.

@nojo: Also, you might want to fund a fire department with at least the most basic training in fighting chemical fires–like not dousing them with water that will make things worse. Unfortunately, the Freedum-loving state of Texas spurns such tyrannical socialist oppression.

The Illuminati made another “whoopsie!”
It must be all that they can do to hold back from publishing election results before they occur.
