What’s next, I ask you?

Mitt Romney is elected in a landslide.

Game over, man. Game over.

@Tommmcatt May Just Have Some MJ In His System As Well, So What?: Mitt Romney is elected in a landslide.

Considering that Romney’s trailing by 64 to 83 electoral votes, that would be a disaster.

@nojo: If you clap your hands until they bleed, Tinkerbell won’t die.

In reality, though, you’re right. It’s just more fun if we pretend it’s close.

@nojo: In 2004 I had my own law practice – lawyer down the hall with impeccable record doing human rights cases burst into my office and said “Kerry is ahead!” I told him the Bushies would steal it … I was roundly mocked, then proved right. At this point, it’s Romney’s to steal. I have no illusions.

@Tommmcatt May Just Have Some MJ In His System As Well, So What?: It’s close enough without the pretense — my only worry all year has been voter suppression, and that hasn’t changed.

On the other hand, I’m not worried about the popular vote. I’m actually looking forward to the spectacular hypocrisy.

@blogenfreude: The lawyer down the hall was wrong. Kerry was only ahead through August. Bush led through much of September, and October was a tossup.

Did Bush steal it? All I can say is that I’m not sure he needed to.

@blogenfreude: @nojo: Real question is, does it matter? They keep fighting, but It just keeps getting worse. Not the economy, though that isn’t any great shakes right now. I am less valued, less able, and further behind every year. And I followed all the rules, really.

I hate the Republicans for their misogyny and homophobia, but more than that, I hate the oligarchs and their bootlickers. As much as I hate to admit it, Obama is just another rich guy worried about keeping his daughters in private school.

It’s us against them. We can’t let them con us anymore.

@Tommmcatt May Just Have Some MJ In His System As Well, So What?: What is next?

Demographic change. Obama won 2008 without white males; he’s on track to do it again. And America’s just starting to spray-tan.

Arc of Justice, and all that.

@Tommmcatt May Just Have Some MJ In His System As Well, So What?: As far as playing by the rules, I can’t speak to that; I ran away and joined the circus in 1983, and never looked back.

If I had played by the rules, today I’d be a bitter, possibly unemployed, journalist who has watched his industry crumble for decades — a condition that long predates the Internet, since it was our J-school dean who warned us freshmen away from the profession. In 1977.

Instead, I’m able to pay the rent through design and geeking — two things that were inconceivable to me even twenty years ago. I got lucky in the nature of my curiosity, is all, and the fortuitous timing of a new world-historical communications medium.

@nojo: Arc of Justice, and all that. Oh how I hope you’re right about its current position! and dear Tommmcatt, I believe Obama is more than “just another rich guy. . . .” On your more optimistic days, don’t you think so, too? Politicians who are good guys have to keep coping with pitch (and opponents who are shits) and trying to remain undefiled. Keeping their hands completely unbesmirched is unpossible.

@lynnlightfoot: Just feeling a little frustrated with my current state of unemployment, I guess. it’s hard to work your whole life and see your prospects diminish even as the ruling class rigs the game further.

Things have to get better- and more fair- soon.

@Tommmcatt May Just Have Some MJ In His System As Well, So What?:
Been out for… 17 months. The frustration is like Chinese water torture. It builds up over time.

Only good thing is I’ve had an outlet for my anger… my ex housemate although he didn’t help last year because I was in such a dyspeptic rage over him that I wouldn’t have been a good interview. Seems pathetic now that he’s been gone for 7 months.

1 stinking interview in 14 months. Last week, I got 3.

@Tommmcatt May Just Have Some MJ In His System As Well, So What?: @ManchuCandidate: Hang in there, guys.

Three interviews last week, ManchuCandidate? That’s a positive development. How did they go?

@SanFranLefty:
So far so good.

1 was for a part time retail job. I think it went well, but it all depends on the other candidates.

The other two were for jobs in my field. One went okay. The better job of the two went better. I have a couple of more interviews to go through to get the job. Those are tougher.

Unrelated – any of the legal-types around here know if the whole “501c3s must be non-political” thing is enforced at all? I’ve been seeing more and more banners for MomThink, which is basically the GOP platform with a cute picture on top. The producers claim to be “non-partisan”, but they even dusted off the wacky “OMG EMP” bit that the Birchers have been pushing…

Prepare to have a nerdgasm, as Joss Whedon has just released a video predicting a Rmoney-induced zombie apocalypse should he “win” in November. Did FCS write the script?

@Tommmcatt & @ManchuCandidate: The job market is pure hay-ell. I’ve applied for four jobs just in the past week trying to line up something for after graduation in June, and I’ve already received two anonymous HR-babble emails telling me to fook off. I didn’t expect to get hired necessarily, but these were jobs for which I’m well qualified–maybe overqualified–and they declined even to interview me. It’s a big blow to one’s self-confidence, no question. At this point, I’m ready to chuck it all and join a commune… but I think those are basically day-care for twentysomething trust fund babies now.

With my luck, I’m gonna end up with the Others on the Island, not that I’m ruling it out.
