Godwin for Senate!

“I don’t want government telling me what I can do and what I can’t do because I’m an American. But in Monongalia County you can’t smoke a cigarette, you can’t smoke a cigar, you can’t do anything… I have to put a huge sticker on my buildings to say this is a smoke free environment. This is brought to you by the government of Monongalia County. OK? Remember Hitler used to put Star of David on everybody’s lapel, remember that? Same thing.” —West Virginia Senate candidate John Raese. [Political Wire]

Freedom for individuals, but is tempered by the collective.

My idiot ex-housemate thinks like this. He believes he was free do whatever he wanted in my house whenever he wanted even to the point of trying to kick me out of my own house. He threw temper tantrums and bully me rather then negotiate when I put my foot down. I find it ironic because I tried to respect his boundaries yet he shit all over mine.

I kind of understood why Liebruls appear to be so damn wimpy. I was. I did passive aggressive. Failed. I tried reasoning. Failed. I tried negotiation. Failed. I tried compromise. Failed. Until the month leading up to giving him notice when I regained my spine and then proceeded over the next three months to drive him out of the house.

@ManchuCandidate: I’m totally wimpy. Until you cross the Hidden Line. And then Passive-Aggressive Hulk emerges. Don’t make me sullen. You won’t like me when I’m sullen.

@nojo:
Was that too.

Hidden line, eh? Me to. I can laugh about it now, but I compared it to Helms Deep from LOTRs. The problem is that I need more lines.

With thoughtful, nuanced reasoning like that, it’s a miracle this man isn’t already in office.

@ManchuCandidate: I have a famously Long Fuse. It only fires off about once a decade.

I really hate getting angry and losing my shit. It means you found a weakness.

@ManchuCandidate: @nojo: I prefer just plain aggressive to passive aggressive. My motto: I’m not here for you to like.

In all fairness, protecting people in WV from smoking-related cancer while letting the GOP’s coal buddies blow up mountains and dump incredibly toxic crap in the water *does* seem a little silly. Not that you’d ever see a Koch-head like Raese mention the second part…
