Bill Maher Holds Christine O’Donnell Hostage, Week 3

On becoming a Christian: “I was dabbling in witchcraft. I’ve dabbled in Buddhism. I would have become a Hare Krishna but I didn’t want to become a vegetarian. And that is honestly the reason why — because I’m Italian, I love meatballs.” [ThinkProgress]

@ManchuCandidate:
she loves meatballs as long as they aren’t hairy.

golf clap for the governator. when will we all be able to blaze up with immunity? it’s like getting pecked to death by a duck.
budget problems? legalize, TAX it, you fucking retards.
(thank you bill mahr for being a pothead and a noisy one on the topic)

Well, the NY Times is reporting that Christine O’Donnell’s “father, Daniel, worked a series of small television roles before scoring his signature gig — playing Bozo the Clown.

But he’s not listed as one of the “local” Bozos on Wikipedia, nor is there evidence of him as Bozo in the listings of local children’s programming and there is no biographical information about Mr. O’Donnell available on the Google.

Is this now officially Bozo-gate?

@baked: Election Day is a month from today, the prison guards, alcohol companies, Christo-fascist fundies and Mexican drug cartels (what a coalition, eh?) are trying to gin up opposition to Prop. 19 but I think it’s going to pass so long as the Yes-on-19 folks keep saying “TWO BEEEELION DOLLARS” [i.e. estimated annual tax revenue to the state from legalization].

@karen marie:

We are all Bozos on this bus.

Thank you Firesign Theater.

@Walking Still: Careful, or I’ll launch into a recitation of Side 1.

Then again, if I do a post on it, I’ll have to call it “Exit Right to Funway”.

@Walking Still: Well, yeah, and there’s hamburger all over the road, but isn’t anyone else outraged that this charlatan would misappropriate an American cultural icon?

@karen marie: But that cultural icon?

First, we can’t rely on a Wikipedia page being comprehensive, although Local Bozos is what Wikipedia was made for.

Second, we need to know more about how the Times sourced that fact. Did she tell the reporter? Did the reporter misunderstand what she told them? (“My dad was the weatherman and substitute Bozo.”)

Third, we need to consider the possibility that her dad was an international spy, and used Local Bozo as a cover story for the family. Because really, once you slap on the clown makeup, who can tell one Bozo from another?

@nojo: Exactly! The reporter emailed me back saying “verified with family,” but that doesn’t answer whether it is demonstrably true.

It seems to me that if it’s significant enough to include in a newspaper report about her background, given COD’s loose self-reporting standards, somewhere there should be something to confirm it.

Yeah, I agree, it’s stupid but she’s using it to create a “wholesome” family image. It just doesn’t strike me as something that, if true, should be all that difficult to prove.

Also, too, the quote was “significant role” which signifies something quite a bit more than being a substitute.

@karen marie: Haven’t followed the discussions elsewhere — obviously this is a hot topic today — but there may indeed be something to the charge that she’s padding Dad’s resume. I’ve been collecting a few pieces to the puzzle, and I’ll probably have a post soon.

@nojo: Yay! I knew someone more competent than me would get on it!

The claim might be a hot topic but I haven’t seen anyone questioning it but me.

@karen marie: Post coming soon — I’ve just about reached the eye-glaze moment of compilation.

@karen marie: she’s using it to create a “wholesome” family image.
Am I the only one who hears “clown” and immediately thinks “John Wayne Gacy”? A clown is the last image I would use to suggest wholesomeness. Add an ice cream truck fand it’s the full child molester package.
