The stiff, frozen carcass of a 93-year old World War II veteran was excavated from his home in Bay City, MI on January 17, transformed into an icy tomb by the Bay City Electric Light & Power which cut off his power earlier this month for arrearages in his electrical bill. Marvin E. Schur’s story is a parable for our monstrous times, a 93-year old widower murdered by a machine he probably didn’t know existed and had designs to kill him.

Murdered as effectively as a battered geriatric stuffed into an gas chamber at Auschwitz, with a far cleaner technology, however, and the patina of deniability, Schur went the way we will all go as Wall Street rips the economy of the United States to shreds and the militarized, high-tech culture of hair-trigger state-sponsored violence churns to life to confront and neutralize the desperate throngs of debtors and dispossessed millions.

My dream just might come true:

In a move “potentially laying the groundwork for an eventual White House run,” Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has created her own political action committee, SarahPAC, to help raise funds for other Republicans. “She has gotten so many requests,” an official with SarahPAC said. “She looks forward to helping other candidates.” Though Palin may be looking to solidify her status with the GOP, some Republicans, such as former McCain adviser John Weaver, might not be excited about SarahPac. Weaver told the Washington Post that Palin is one of “the most controversial voices on the extreme right.”

Weaver, you stupid shitbag – you created her. You couldn’t predict she’d head for the village and start breaking stuff?  Fucktard.

You thought 43 was responsible for all the looting and pillaging?  Not so fast – look what 41 inflicted on my beloved state of New York:

An appointee of President George H. W. Bush who was the first woman and first Hispanic to serve as surgeon general, Dr. [Antonia C.] Novello was praised even by the Clinton administration for her “vigor and talent” and promised to bring new attention to pediatric health.

But the New York State inspector general’s office says that she turned her staff at the Health Department into her personal chauffeurs, porters and shopping assistants during her seven-year tenure, and has referred a criminal case, including potential felony charges, to the Albany County district attorney.

Where does the Bush family find these people?

This one, however, is true.As we were researching quotes for Monday’s Things Best Left Unsaid, there was another Bush Administration classic we wanted to include: Karl Rove’s “Permanent Republican Majority”.

Only we couldn’t find it.

And as we Googled the shit out of it — an exercise usually reserved for esoteric geek questions, or celebrity porn — we came to strongly doubt he ever said it. In fact, he denies it.

Let’s go to the archives:

I think I know what’s on the minds of many of you.  There needs to be a purging of something deep inside you.  Not something bothering you about the political world, but something deeper.  The banal things that surround you.

Perhaps the Billy Joel etc. thread set this off, but I cannot fucking stand how fake people are totally running the world.  Pre-packaged crap dressed up as The Next Big Thing, corporate speak, routine, routine, routine — all to cover for loneliness, for inadequacy, for imperfection, for being a total fuck-up.  The money that is made, the women that are scored, the big money, fabulous prizes, power and control.

But that’s me.  If your fist could smash something, friends, what would it be?  Nothing profound like war or hate, you know.  The simpler things — the creepy guy on the bus, the ad in the window of the bank, the girl chatting away on the cell phone while walking into traffic.

What’s that one nagging, annoying itch that you want to scratch with a tactical nuclear missile?  Dear friends: what’s pissing you off today?

UPDATED below.

It wasn’t easy, but I read all of today’s Bill Kristol column in the NYT.  But the last line made my suffering worthwhile:

“This is William Kristol’s last column.”

It’s a big day Stinquers.  For some reason, known only to a few, this country’s most ignorant, most consistently wrong pundit will no longer be flinging poo on our most prestigious op-ed page. His contract won’t be renewed.

I urge you all to head over to the NYT and comment on Kristol’s final steaming pile.  My comment appears after the jump.
